Frequently asked questions…

What areas do you cover?

Hounds of Blaxtonville is based in Blaxton, Doncaster DN9. We cover Blaxton, Finningley, and Auckley.

Are you insured and DBS checked?

Yes! I hold full public liability insurance and I’m DBS checked, so you can rest easy knowing your dog is in safe, responsible hands.

What qualifications do you have?

I hold a Level 5 Diploma in Canine Behaviour Practice, a Level 3 Diploma in Canine Care, Behaviour & Welfare, and I am certified in Canine First Aid. I also have extensive hands-on experience with a variety of breeds, temperaments, and behaviour types.

Do you accept reactive, nervous, or challenging dogs?

Absolutely. I specialise in working with dogs who need a little extra understanding. Whether your dog is reactive towards people or other dogs, anxious, or simply not suited to group walks, I’ll adapt each walk to their individual needs in a calm and controlled way. Depending on the level of reactivity, we may ask that your dog wears a muzzle for safety or recommend a trial period to better assess their needs. For the well-being of everyone involved, we also reserve the right to decline if we feel the risk is too great.

Will my dog be walked alone or with others?

We primarily offer solo walks to ensure your dog receives our full attention and a walk tailored to meet their individual needs. However, group walks may be available in some cases — this is something we can discuss during our initial meet and greet to see what’s most suitable for your dog.

Will you let my dog off the lead?

Only with your written consent, and only in safe, secure environments. Your dog’s recall, temperament, and environment will always be considered before any off-lead exercise is allowed. “On-lead” includes the use of a standard-length lead attached to a collar or harness, and/or an 8m retractable lead

What happens in an emergency?
In the event of an emergency, we will always try to contact you first. If we can't reach you and urgent care is needed, we may take your dog to the vet using the emergency consent you've provided during registration.

What happens during extreme weather?

Walks will go ahead in most conditions, but during extreme heat, storms, or icy conditions, walks may be shortened, rescheduled, or replaced with a home visit or enrichment session to prioritise safety.

Do you offer puppy or elderly dog visits/ pop-ins?

Yes! For younger dogs, seniors, or dogs not ready for full walks, I offer shorter 30-minute visits that can include toilet breaks, feeding, playtime, and basic training reinforcement.

What should I provide for my dog's walk?

To ensure your dog’s safety, comfort, and well-being during and after their walk, please provide the following:

  • A secure, well-fitted collar with a clearly visible ID tag - This helps ensure your dog can be easily identified in the unlikely event they become separated during a walk. The collar should be snug (but not tight) and in good condition.

  • A suitable lead and harness (if your dog uses one) - A sturdy lead is required for safe handling and control during walks. If your dog wears a harness, please ensure it fits properly and is free of damage or excessive wear. Poorly fitting equipment can cause discomfort or injury.

  • A towel (for drying off in wet weather) - Walks continue rain or shine, so a towel helps dry off your dog afterwards to keep them warm, clean, and comfortable when they return home.

  • A water bowl for fresh drinking water - Especially on warm days or after longer walks, it’s important that your dog has access to fresh water to stay hydrated.

How do I get started?

Firstly, use the “Contact Us” section of our website to get in touch. We will then email you a registration form. Once we have received this back, we can arrange a free consultation at your home. During this visit, you’ll have the opportunity to meet us, ask any questions, and share more about your dog. This relaxed environment helps us understand your dog’s routine, personality, and any specific needs or behaviours. It also gives your dog the chance to meet us in a familiar setting, helping to build trust right from the start.

How do I pay?

Payment is due in advance or on the day of the walk, unless otherwise agreed.

What if I need to cancel?

Cancellations made with less than 24 hours’ notice may be charged in full. Please let me know as early as possible if your plans change.
